Meteorological conditions and outdoor observation elevators

Icing and frosty weather

Icing and frosty weather

Icing and frost pose a significant threat to the operation of general-purpose load outdoor observation elevators. The industry recommends that outdoor sightseeing elevators are not suitable for installation in locations where icing and frost occur frequently. In places where icing and frost occur infrequently, outdoor sightseeing elevators should be taken out of service in the event of icing and frost. Windy weather may be the second reason why people have to reduce the operating speed of outdoor sightseeing elevators or stop the elevator operation. Places with frequent high winds are not suitable for installing outdoor sightseeing elevators unless the elevator shaft is located in a location that is completely sheltered from the wind on the exterior of the building. Therefore, in this case, it is very important that a separate indoor elevator must be installed in the building so that when weather conditions are unfavorable for outdoor elevator operation, the indoor elevator can still ensure uninterrupted vertical transportation.

Additional seasonal weather

Additional seasonal weather

Moderate rainfall and hot weather are not harmful to a well-designed and installed outdoor elevator, but naturally occurring seasonal dust and sand can lead to excessive wear and tear on suitable equipment that can cause maintenance costs to spike, and this is one of the issues that must be considered before deciding whether to install an outdoor elevator in a building. All elevator parts exposed to the open air should be properly treated and protected.

Technical characteristics of sightseeing elevators

Car

The novelty of sightseeing elevator lies in the adoption of transparent viewing curtain wall in the viewing area of the car. All personnel engaged in the design, manufacture and installation of sightseeing elevators must be in the glass assembly industry. Before designing a scenic elevator car, designers should consult the relevant building codes to understand the code requirements for the use of glass materials in elevator cars and shafts. During design and installation, clear view walls should not be used as load-bearing or structural components. The frame around the transparent viewing wall should be sufficient to withstand all horizontal forces, including those that may be generated by elevator passengers, without deformation affecting safety performance.

The roof and bottom cover must be strong and sturdy, but at the same time must be light in weight and easy to replace. The design should ensure that the external decoration surface of the car is not damaged by repair work, oil or excessive lubricants.

Exposed parts and components

The exposed surface of the elevator hall door and its accessories and each visible part of the exterior of the car should have a smooth, durable, corrosion-resistant and easy-to-clean surface. The material surface is generally made of corrosion-resistant steel or enamel.

It is possible to provide a safe place for maintenance personnel to operate and drive on the roof so that they can perform daily equipment maintenance and inspection on the roof. Daily equipment maintenance includes the cleaning of all publicly visible parts and components in the shaft, such as the hall door and door frame accessories, etc. Sightseeing elevator cabins usually do not have a roof emergency exit. The bottom pit and bottom protection is at the lowest level station of the elevator, and the space below the shaft should be isolated so that maintenance personnel can safely access the parts outside the bottom of the car, implement routine maintenance and cleaning, replace the lighting outside the car, etc. Most importantly, the shaft (pit) enclosure must be provided to prevent passengers or pedestrians from entering it by mistake. It is a common practice to provide a transparent curtain wall for the bottom of the shaft in harmony with the elevator equipment décor, which is part of the elevator civil construction work.
